Air conditioning sucks
I've not used A/C much during my FFH, preferring to work with the driving without air way to save on mpg. However today was sizzling hot and humid inside the Philadelphia area. I made a decision to make use of A/C going home from work.

I have noticed the same trend, though much less drastic as your first experience. Here in Southwest Oklahoma, many experts have tough to opt for out A/C. My one of many ways commute is all about 17 miles. Without AC I average about 3841 MPG, with AC the time is often similar to 3335.
A very important factor which i generally do is go on and run the AC even though the ICE heats up to normal operating temperature. It will help get the initial temperature in the vehicle down from 120 or so into a manageable 85.
