11 month old reducing your weight
My son is 11 months old. He had doubled his birth weight before he was three years old and was at 20 lbs and 11 ounces two/three months ago. We are still breastfeeding and we are also giving him minimum of one pureed serving of food every day (that is foursix ounces). At our last weight check (after he had buried one pound), he had decreased another 5 to 6 ounces down to 19 lbs and 3oz.
Our doc were only available in (and raised my hackles) and basically accused my spouse and i of giving our son a lot of solid food and never enough breastmilk. I was still feeding him every twothree hours (not counting the solid feeding as well as the sixeight hours rest through the night).
My concern is that because of his little speech my spouce and i increased our milk feeds and our son started spitting up somewhat again (which is why we had decreased the feeding time while he was ninety days old he was spitting a great deal of it down). We all added a milkfeed before giving him solids and decreased the quantity of solids (from foursix ounces right down to two). However we're concerned that he is still shedding pounds. Also, he pulls off and does not remain on for the entire feeding time. Usually about every other or so feedings he'll, but not whenever.
I was wondering if someone else had were built with a similar knowledge of their child. I must mention that according to a couple of places, breastfed babies will typically be between 2.5 and 3 times their birthweight at 12 months for our son that would be between 18 and 1/8 lbs and 21 and 3/4 lbs. I'm just considering if I'm justified in telling my pediatrician to avoid worrying my husband about our son's diet plan?
You'll need a new pediatrician
I too nursed (still do at 21 mo). At approximately 11 mo of aging my baby was nursing usually 5 times each day and was eating plenty of pureed and finger food. We used his hunger cues as well as a loose schedule to secure him. He's got stayed steady in the 90th percentile since he was 6 mo old. Forcing more about a young child than he needs usually backfires big time.
If your child is reducing your weight between appointments, and you're feeding him everytime he indicates he needs it (breastmilk or solids) then there can be another thing medically taking place that needs to be investigate.
Also, if your son a full tummy 2 mo ago, and an emptier one now, or possibly a different scale was utilized, etc. His weight could possibly be off a bit. My personal baby gained less than a pound from 912 mo, and three pounds from 1218. But we used different scales each and every time (long story) therefore i understand that it's not quite accurate but also absolutely nothing to concern yourself with.
Locate a different pediatrician which will enable you to truly solve the issue in the constructive way, if there even is an issue. But additionally, don't ignore the weight loss, in the event this is a problem.
Another thought, (still find another doctor) but a Twelve month old must have only 1624 ounces of milk and stay weaned from formula (but remember to breastfeed for). Point is actually 11 mo your kids needs to be finding a substantial volume of his calories from solids, not nursing. He should eat 36 oz of solids for the majority of of his meals, and should have a minimum of 3 meals of solids. Try giving him fattier solids like avocado, fish, hamburger, etc.
Plus you say he'll not nurse your entire feeding time babies read more efficient at nursing, and several will get serveral ounces in a couple of minutes. If he pulls off and will not latch back on, he is full.
Consult your doctor, however would try and increase his solid foods, and introduce fingerfoods, but keep on nursing several times every day that has good health too. Here are some links along with other posts I wrote regarding introducing finger foods. You could possibly will quickly realize them helpful.
